JAPAN CULINARY ADVENTURES: TOKYO

Note: All the Culinary Adventure posts on this blog are merely reports, not reviews. These adventures serve as "research" and "areas of learning" for the author (which is me, duh).

For the holidays, my family and I embarked on a 10-days trip to Japan and Hong Kong. To be honest, I wasn't a fan of Japan at first, getting excited on solely the Japanese food and nothing else. My expectations were far high exceeded though - JAPAN WAS SO FUN!

In this trip, we only had the chance to visit three cities - Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka - mainly because my family did not hire any travel agency aid and relied mainly on ourselves for the survival of our trip. We originally planned to go to Kyoto, but due to the heavily cold, snowing weather and our desire to spend more time in Osaka, we abandoned that plan.

First city is Tokyo. Damn, I'm not lying when I say foodies will experience heaven here. Just take a look.

This one picture may be unrelated to the blog post, but I feel the need to post this pic before we begin with the streams of food pictures.

THE ASAKUSA TEMPLE'S GATE, PEOPLE!

This one is a small tempura restaurant near the Asakusa Temple. Prices are not bad, ranging from 700-1030 (yen).

Take a peek on the dishes I tried then.

I think this one consisted of shrimp, fish, scallop, squid, bell peppers, lotus root and other decadent veggies. They're super crispy! The clear soup and pickles were also good!

More pictures, just because.

TAKE A LOOK AT THAT SCALLOP WILL YOU? LOOK AT THAT BEAUTY!

Now this one's different.
This is a bowl of udon soup topped with ebi tempura, enoki mushrooms and some form of rice cake that's fairly new to me. The soup is beautiful, by the way.

Next up is one restaurant in the district of Shinjuku, Tokyo called Nijyu Maru, which boasts menus of contemporary Japanese dishes. Here are some of them.

OKONOMIYAKI, Y U SO GOOD?

This one I'm not sure of it's nature. It's egg fried rice topped with a stir-fry of minced pork, chilli and bell peppers, served in a black stone bowl. There's also a runny sunny-side up egg underneath the pork.

MATCHA GREEN TEA ICE CREAM, MATCHA MOCHI AND RED BEANS. WHAT CAN GET ANY BETTER?
(P.S: I love everything affiliated with Matcha.)

THIS IS ONE HELL OF WEIRD IN A CUP. REALLY, NATO?

Tokyo, I miss you already.
