Hey there! 'Sup?
So recently my mother and I went to Singapore for no particular reason besides to eat and shop (two of my most favorite things to do in the world). We had the chance to visit a handful of eateries. My tummy was dancing in joy, and I can bet I've gained at least 2 kgs. Unfortunately though, I can't fit reviews on all of them in this blog - there's too many of them, and most of the time I did not have the chance to take decent pictures of them because of the rush I was in.
We were wondering where to eat next when my Singaporean uncle recommended this trending French restaurant, Poulet. This restaurant actually has a lot of branches, so I headed to one which was closest to my then current location.
Here's a look at the Vivo City branch:
To my surprise, Poulet (French word for chicken) is located right across Jamie's Italian! You know, Jamie Oliver's restaurant?
Poulet is in fact not as authentic as I thought. When said to be a French restaurant, the first thing that came to mind is a place that served French food only. For instance, the restaurant put tiramisu, a renowned Italian treat, as their star dessert.
Let's start showing the food pictures, shall we?
Escargot de Bourgogne, $8.80
There's one more thing that makes Poulet different from other French restaurants, and that is their bold move of modifying traditional dishes. This escargot, for example, is peculiar. Instead of using tons of garlic, a sour, tangy taste was used instead. Maybe a tang of tomato? I don't really recognize.
I can't really say that I like this fusion. It didn't really work for me. Even if the snail texture is adequate, I won't be ordering this dish again. I tried to open my mind about this, but I really can't.
Unlike it's predecessor, this dish is uh-may-zing! Sweet, playful dressing? Check. Crisp and fresh romaine lettuce? Check. Additions of extra ingredients like avocadoes, cherry tomatoes and pine nuts? Check. I appreciate that they chop the greens, made it easier to put into the mouth. And the pine nuts? Dayum!
The first of the main dishes. Though my meal wasn't started by a fantastic appetiser (the escargot, by the way), the main course made me happy. The pork belly was cooked to perfect tenderness that it melted in my mouth. Beneath, creamy, smooth mashed potatoes packed with flavors pampered my toungue with every bite. (Not yet done)
Man is this chicken flawless! The chicken meat was not at all difficult to chew; it's super tender. In addition, the creamy white sauce really did seep into the chicken. There's a slight crisp to the skin too.
Just a closer look on the chicken.
And yes, the mushroom was gorgeous as Audrey Hepburn.
The out-of-this-world white sauce.
Last but not least, finally we tried the oh-so-famous tiramisu. It's just like any other classic tiramisu - sponge cake soaked in coffee, layered with mascarpone cheese, a dash of white chocolate, topped with cocoa powder. It's a decent dessert, I say. I do like the fact that the coffee was not to overwhelming, and that this dessert id not to sweet. It's worth a shot.
So there goes my review peeps! Hoped you find this helpful in any way. Poulet is my recommendation if someday you wish to visit Singapore. Try it out guys! You'll have a great casual French dining experience!
