BC's Cone at PIK

Hey guys! What's up?

If you have been active in social media, you might have heard of this new ice cream parlor BC's Cone. I, being an avid social media user myself, am thoroughly baffled by all the attention this parlor has been getting these past few months. I had zero idea why so many of my friends uploaded BC's Cone's ice cream pictures and checked-in to this place, and the frequency of their visits puzzled me. Then, as a foodie and curious human being, I came to a solution that I must go there immediately. So I did.

There's no doubt that the owner is crazy for turquoise! Of course, the place is not totally covered in turquoise, we can obviously see the heavy accents of the color in BC's Cone's interior. Heck, even the ice cream is turquoise!

Before my visit, I had a heavy lunch near the area, fulfilling my stomach and prohibiting space for dessert. So, to my regret, I was only able to order one item from the menu

Platter, Rp. 55k
SIX MINI ICE CREAM CONES - WHAT? Looking at these adorable mini cones drove me to insanity. The colors of these ice cream and cones are so pleasing, definitely eye candies. Like any other ice cream parlors, different colors of ice cream and cones represent different flavors. Here's the list of flavors according to color:
Ice Cream:
1. Purple - Taro
2. White - Milky Vanilla
3. Blue (or greenish blue? idk) - Cream Soda
4. Pink - Strawberry Candy

Cone:
1. Red - Rose
2. Blue - Bubble Gum
3. Black - Charcoal

There are actually six flavors of ice cream, but since I ordered the platter, I was not allowed to pick my flavors. Honestly, this got me so disappointed; I anticipated to try the maccha and ovaltine flavors.

Now before anything, I apologize that I wasn't be able to photograph all the ice cream cones (my companions sure was eager). Nevertheless, I am still going to review all the flavors.

I only managed to take pictures of two out of six ice cream cones. Yeah, yeah, be as mad as you wish, sorry.
Strawberry Candy ice cream on Charcoal cone (with strawberry Pocky topping)

Milky Vanilla ice cream on Bubble Gum cone (with caramel shot)

Now, I am going to briefly review all the ice cream and cone flavors one by one.

Ice Cream:
1. Taro: By far one of my faves. Consistency not too creamy and sweet.
2. MilkyVanilla: A bit too creamy to my taste, and vanilla taste could have been stronger. Not too sweet.
3. Cream Soda: This one is the most unique of the bunch, and my current fave. Not too creamy and sweet. Soda can actually be tasted.
4. Strawberry Candy: My least favorite. Too creamy and sweet to my liking. Strawberry essence cannot be tasted.

Cone:
THE CONES HAVE NO PROFOUND FLAVOR.

This is my overall opinion on BC's Cone: the parlor is a bit too overrated. Yes, BC's Cone can be credited on its creative take on food coloring and presentation, but the actual taste of its ice cream is not a strong enough distinction from any other ice cream parlor's ice cream. However, I do not wish to say that this will be my final verdict until I have tasted all the flavors of the ice cream.

The place was decent, and undoubtedly a nice site for hang-outs, so don't hesitate to visit if you're looking for a happening dessert parlor with colorful and playful ambiance.

IPPUDO Ramen at Pacific Place

WADDUUPP WADDUUPP WADDUPP!!!

Okay, okay. I know that I've been absent in this blog for a LONG time. Sorry, no need to patronize.
I miss this blog. I really do.

Enough with the sentimentalism. Let's get to the real reason why we're all here: FOOD!

Recently IPPUDO, a ramen chain restaurant from Japan opened its first Jakarta outlet at the Pacific Place Mall. To say that I'm thrilled is an understatement - I've been a fan of the restaurant ever since I've tasted its ramen in Singapore a couple years back. I expected the food here in Jakarta to taste exactly like those in Singapore.

Getting my hands on the menu, my eyes wander at unprecedented menu items! It turns out that IPPUDO in Jakarta serves other items besides ramen and rice bowls! See for yourself.

Seared Salmon Roll with Mentaiko, Rp. 78k
Holy Moly this one was a fiesta in the mouth! Each bite was packed with beautiful proportions of rice, baked salmon, mayo and roe (obviously by "beautiful proportions" I mean more fish than rice). No more words are needed; the sushi was pure perfection.

Sweet Corn Tempura, Rp. 25k
At first, when my dad told the waitress that he would like to order this, I cringed. However, as I took a bite on one of these luscious balls, I took back my gesture. The corn was indeed sweet (naturally, not artificially) and the batter (although I doubt it to be a tempura batter) was super crunchy and tasty. All in all, this was decent.

Buta Karaage, Rp. 48k
This one isn't bad. The pork loin tenders were nicely seasoned and lightly battered in crispiness. Dipping sauce was awesome.

Saikoro Steak, Rp. 85k
The steak, cut in cubes, was very tender and moist. However, much of the seasoning did not get absorbed to the meat, merely sticking on its surface. The veggies were also very nice - the right level of crunch and flavor.

Interesting pick on foods served in a ramen place, right?

Now, after feasting our eyes on mouth-watering food pictures, it's time to finally check out the real diva of the meal, RAMEN!

Shiromaru Motoaji, Rp. 68k
The tonkotsu soup was very light and tasty. Noodles were cooked al dente. Pork loin slices were concoctions of tenderness, flavor, and fragrance. This bowl of heaven is not one to miss.

So guys, if you had had any doubts about IPPUDO, get rid of them immediately. Of course, there are other ramen places that serve their food at a much lower price, but the extra that you have to pay at IPPUDO will definitely be worth it. Give it a shot, and feast your appetites here.
